In an editorial piece, The Sydney Morning Herald documents the astroturfing activities of the tobacco and now e-cigarette campaign - and urges the government to stand alone in its position against e-cigarettes due to the unknown effects of using them. It argues that the NHMRC has put $6.5 million into e-cigarette research since 2011 and says the results will start to be known next year. Given the risks, there is a strong case for waiting and no plausible case for delivering the tobacco companies a short-term win at the risk of long-term cost to the community.
