The $6 million project to construct the building accommodating the Territory’s own PET scanner has been awarded to Darwin-based company Sitzler. Health Minister Natasha Fyles said awarding the tender was the first step towards Territorians no longer having to travel interstate to obtain the services. “The PET scanners are a critical diagnostic tool, providing detailed medical scans that can help with the early detection and treatment of diseases like cancer,” she said. “It also opens up the Territory as a hub for PET scanner research in Northern Australia and the Asia Pacific Region.” Ms Fyles said the construction phase would create 60 jobs and the facility was expected to be completed by next year.
